History of Mondo Convenienza: birth and growth of an Italian Success

Gianni CarosiThe history of Mondo Convenienza is that of a man who has fought with perseverance and determination to be successful in life. It is the story of a man who started from nothing, and is now the head of one of the most important Italian companies involved in the sale of furniture throughout the country.

The future founder of Mondo Convenienza, Giovanni Battista Carosi, starts his adventure in the furniture business at a large retail store, where at first he is a sales manager, and then a buyer.
Becoming store manager is an additional short step, thanks to the intuition and sensibility that Gianni – that’s how they call him at the store – is able to demonstrate toward customers. A few years later, he becomes manager of another big furniture store in Civitavecchia.
Here Gianni is able to increase the monthly invoices from 28 to 150 million lire; and when the store owner decides to sell the business, he buys it and starts the first Mondo Convenienza store, sure to make it grow big.
He certainly had no idea what that “big” really meant.
In 1990, with an area of 1500 square meters in the city of Cerveteri (Rome), the first medium sized company store is inaugurated.

From the Center to the North, Mondo Convenienza for the Italians

The period 1990 to 2009 witnesses many new store openings: new Mondo Convenienza stores are started all over Central Italy.  Starting from Piancastagnaio (Siena), Borgo San Michele (Latina), Scarlino (Grosseto), Roma Aurelia, Roma Salaria, Roma Monterotondo, Roma Romanina, Roma Pontina, Roma Casilina, Roma Ostia, Frosinone, Prato, Viterbo, Cascina (Pisa), and ending at Corciano (Perugia).
Gianni’s policy is a winner, and it can be seen by the fact that Mondo Convenienza experiences the first attempts at being imitated.  Others try to copy— unsuccessfully — its formula, its company colors, even the slogans, and publicity jingles.
In 2007 the company starts its conquest of Northern Italy, with the opening of a store in Brescia, immediately followed with the ones in Pescara, Verona, Milano, Marcon (Venice), Como, Fiumicino (Rome) and Cremona.


Convenience at a mouse click

In 2003, first in Italy in its field, Mondo convenienza opens a virtual store on the web which allows its customers to buy from home nearly all products sold in stores.
  

Toward the future

Well established throughout Italy, Mondo Convenienza is presently a solid and prosperous reality, which is tackling the present world economic crisis with optimism and indomitable trust in its own strength exemplified by the spirit of its founder.
A few months ago, in March 2009, the new Cremona store was opened. And next September will witness a new store opening in another northern Italian city...even in this impending time of crisis.
